Citizenship
Article 12 of the United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
Article 12 states that children have
the right to participate in decision-making processes that may be relevant in
their lives and to influence decisions taken in their regard - within the
family, school or community. Read an
overview of Article 12 on the UNICEF website.

Aims
·
To develop children’s participation of learning 'citizenship
through experience'.
Objectives
Citizenship is about
developing the children’s awareness of themselves and others as a part of
communities, whether it is their families, Nursery, school, village, country or
the world. It should help them develop a
way of thinking about their decisions and how they may affect others as well as
themselves.
In Nursery developing this
awareness will generally be done discreetly, through talking, sharing and
discussing problems, as well as introducing rules and appropriate social behaviour.
We will encourage the
children to make choices and as far as possible listen to their choices and
help them follow their decisions constructively.
We will encourage children
to establish their own rules and explain them to others.
