Behaviour Policy

 

The Nursery school encourages all children to behave reasonably and in an appropriate way for their development. 

 

The Nursery School:-

 

·          Sets boundaries and expectations that are realistic fro young children and consistent and appropriate to the child’s level of understanding.

·          Sharing is encouraged and developed helping children to respect other children’s feelings.

·          Encourages children to become aware that actions and words have an effect on others.

·          Expects adults to set good examples of respecting and co-operating with others.

·          Plans activities and circle times to help children learn about right and wrong, through role-play discussion and stories.

·          Reassures children that strong feelings are acceptable if expresses in appropriate ways.

 

Expectations

Children will share toys and resources

Children will respect others personal space and property.

 

Behaviour that causes concern

 

·          Non-accidental damage to others.

·          Non-accidental damage to property.

·          Biting

·          Hitting

·          Kicking

·          Bad language

·          Inappropriate language.

·          Consistent refusal to join in with some simple activities.

·          Vandalism.

 

Behaviour management.

 

If a child is observed behaving inappropriately a member of staff will remind them in appositive way to desist or change that particular behaviour.

 

If there is constant behaviour problem and discussion and reason is not helping the child, the parents will be informed and asked to discuss the problem with staff.  If need be a behaviour programme will be constructed between parent and staff to improve the problem, using reminders, star charts and positive reinforcement.  If problem continues or is making little progress staff will meet with parents to start an early action plan.

 

Behaviour that needs reporting to parents at the end of the session.

 

·          Biting    both biter and child bitten.

·          Consistent or continual hitting/kicking

·          Deliberate damage to property or children

·          Bad language (Swear words)
